Apple could develop smart speakers with built-in screens and cameras

Apple appears to be developing some new smart home devices, according to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. These smart home devices are not new in and of themselves as developed by other companies, but it will be the first for Apple. These devices are supposedly smart speakers with built-in screens and cameras.

If this sounds familiar, it’s because they’re essentially smart displays that we’ve seen from Amazon, Google, and Facebook. They work more or less like smart speakers, but with the addition of the display, they can also be used to watch videos, make video calls, and collaborate with surveillance cameras and video doorbells.

Even so, Gurman warns that these devices will never see the light of day. This is because while Apple is supposed to research these products, there is no guarantee that the company will ever turn them into a commercial product and release them to the masses. So don’t be too excited just yet.

Apple has had mixed success with smart devices. The HomePod was largely viewed as a flop, which ultimately led to its suspension, but its HomePod mini appears to be doing much better. The same report by Gurman also showed that the HomePod mini has temperature and humidity sensors built into it, but they are not used, at least for the time being.
