Apple could work on an Apple Watch with a wrap-around display

Given the rumors that Apple may be looking for flexible displays for a future iPhone, we can’t say this recent patent comes as a surprise. According to the folks at MacRumors, they came across an Apple-filed patent in which it appears Apple is investigating the idea of an Apple Watch with a wraparound display.

This means that the entire watch itself, including the strap, is made up of a single flexible display. That way, in theory, the watch would be able to show more information across the band instead of just on the face itself. It sounds like an interesting idea, although we’re not sure how practical it will be.

However, Apple describes some novel uses for such a gadget that allow users to easily change the design of the band on the fly. Currently, Apple users can change the face of their watch. However, changing the band is more of a physical process and users would have to purchase them separately. However, a digital tape means that users can easily download and exchange them as only the items shown on the flexible display need to be changed.

There is no guarantee Apple will make this patent a reality. So maybe don’t get your hopes up just yet, but interestingly, Apple isn’t the only one contemplating such an ideal. A few years ago, Lenovo actually showed off a proof-of-concept device in the form of a phone with a flexible display wrapped around the user’s wrist.
