Apple is slated to launch a pair of smart contact lenses in 2030

Rumor has it that Apple is working on some wearable tech devices. That includes a potential AR / VR headset and smart AR glasses, but that doesn’t seem to be all. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has put together an anticipated roadmap for Apple’s AR efforts, he appears to believe Apple might be working on a pair of smart contact lenses.

Before you get too excited, however, know that Kuo states that there is currently no visibility regarding the launch schedule. However, he suggests that shipping will most likely be after 2030, which means we will definitely have to wait a very long time, even if the technology makes its debut in the first place.

Other than that, it’s not such a fancy idea. If the rumors about AR glasses are true, we wouldn’t be surprised if Apple were interested in restricting the technology even further if, in the form of contact lenses, it could appeal to people who don’t normally wear glasses or who don’t like the idea of the Glasses.

It raises the question of privacy and what happens if you lose it, but as far as technology goes, this could be an impressive feat. Either way, since this is way too far ahead in the future, we probably shouldn’t set our hopes too high just yet.
