Belkin is engaged on equipment that can present AirPlay 2 connectivity to audio system

When choosing audio devices like speakers, users sometimes have to choose between speakers with great audio quality and speakers with more advanced features like wireless connectivity etc. However, Belkin appears to be working on an accessory that will allow users to enjoy the best of both worlds.

According to 9to5Mac, they discovered an FCC file for an accessory made by Belkin that allows users to upgrade AirPlay 2 connectivity for speakers that don’t have this feature. Such an accessory isn’t exactly new as Apple developed the AirPort Express in the past, which has since been discontinued.

This adapter, manufactured by Belkin, was named Belkin Soundform Connect in the filing, which is powered by a USB-C cable and supports audio output through a 3.5mm connector as well as optical digital audio. As soon as a speaker is connected to the accessory, Apple devices such as the iPhone or iPad recognize it as an AirPlay 2 compatible speaker and can stream audio wirelessly through the accessory.

That being said, it should be noted that there are already accessories out there that provide Bluetooth connectivity to speakers. However, if AirPlay / AirPlay 2 is your preferred wireless connection, this may be an accessory to look out for.
