Continuous (67)

Chanel Steady (67) Rouge Allure Laque (2020) ($ 40.00 for 0.18 oz.) Is a light medium pink coral with warm undertones and a natural sheen. The texture was light, thin, and pliable, so it was easy to spread it all over my lips in an even layer for medium coverage, but that particular shade was more likely to pick up imperfections or get into my fine lines.

Since the formula was set to its slightly thicker and stickier consistency, the settling wasn't as noticeable (see swatch photo) as it was originally, which was nice to see. It carried well for four and a half hours and felt moisturizing over time, but didn't hit the high notes it was intended to.

Formula overview

$ 40.00 / 0.18 oz. – – $ 222.22 per ounce

The formula is said to have "ultra-intense color with a long-lasting satin sheen in one fell swoop" that lasts up to "12 hours" and is pleasant for up to "8 hours". Most of the shades I tested had a medium to semi-opaque coverage in one layer that could be built up by applying a second layer.

The consistency initially felt smoother and like a liquid lip balm and turned into something thicker, denser, and stickier within 30 seconds, which helped hold the product in place better. I also felt that the color looked more even over time and was less likely to sit in my lip lines, but it could take an hour or more to show up.

It felt pretty light and had more of the "satin sheen" the brand claimed after an hour or two of wear, and it felt significantly less tacky. There are other formulas on the market that have a similar start and end feel (from something thinner to something thicker and stickier), but the stickiness that wears off faster with Chanel's formula has cut the lifespan significantly.

The color lasted between five and seven hours, with deeper, more pigmented, and lighter tones lasting longer than lighter ones. You didn't survive as well from a meal, and for something that is marketed for up to 12 hours I would expect better survivability. However, they were very comfortable and moisturizing to wear and left my lips in better condition after wearing different sunglasses for a few days. They had a floral scent, but no noticeable taste to me.

And no, this is none other than the previously published Rouge Allure Laque formula. The older formula is more like a literal liquid lipstick, so it was creamier and thicker, and the formula didn't change or settle after about a minute. at most after a few hours of wearing (like any glossier lipstick) it was satin to semi-matt. While they have the same name, they are really different types of formulas.

Unlimited (68)

Chanel Unlimited (68) Rouge Allure Laque (2020) ($ 40.00 for 0.18 oz.) Is a light, medium orange with subtle, warm red undertones and a natural sheen. It had almost opaque pigmentation in one layer that was applied evenly and smoothly to my lips without highlighting any natural texture. The consistency was light, pliable, and more balm-like before being "adjusted" to a slightly denser and thicker texture that was moderately sticky. It took a good six and a half hours, but felt very moisturizing over time.
