Living in the Arizona desert made me realize that after years in California, my skin care routine needed to be changed. Sunscreen was a MUST have and kept my skin hydrated. Not only am I more diligent with sunscreen, but I also make sure I don't miss any steps to keep my skin hydrated as I adapt to the desert and the changing seasons.

Aside from sunscreen, there's one thing I always do to treat my skin – and that is what gives it a healthy dose of moisture. Whether you have oily or dry skin, everyone can benefit from a hydration boost to improve elasticity and oil control while keeping the skin looking plump.

Hyaluronic acid has always been the king of skin moisturizers and for good reason – it can hold 1000 times its weight in water! And as we get older, our skin needs more and more help, which is why I regularly use moisturizers B-Hydra Intense Hydration Serum and F Balm Electrolyte Water Facial from Drunk Elephant.

I'm actually already on my second bottle B-Hydra Intense Hydration Serum because I enjoy it so much. As the name suggests serum, the texture is closer to a thin gel cream. B-Hydra acts and absorbs like a dream. I love using this right out of the shower in the morning or right after cleaning my face in the evening. It works best when applied to damp skin. So I use a face mist and then quickly apply it.

B-Hydra is formulated with Pro-Vitamin B5 to suck in moisture from the air (and from any facial mists you put on your skin) and ceramides to set everything in place. This serum not only works wonderfully at increasing moisture levels, but also improves the skin's barrier function. This is something we can all benefit from when it comes to reducing water loss through the skin, but also keeping away the bad things like bacteria, viruses, or irritants that lead to skin sensitivities.

If it's a morning application, I can easily move on to the next step, which is usually a tinted sunscreen or foundation. It never feels heavy, sticky, or "too much", but rather like the perfect amount of "wet" before I move on with my normal makeup routine.

If this is a nighttime routine I like to follow or even mix with F Balm Electrolyte Water Facial. I like to think of this as my double effort to lock in moisture overnight as a fan burns out and the air conditioning turns on and off all night. Do you really want to give your skin everything that Drunk Elephant has? Layer this over theirs Virgin Marula Luxury Face Oil.

I absolutely LOVE the feel of this oil because it's super light, non-greasy, and full of skin-loving antioxidants that fight pollution and free radical damage. It works great for smoothing out those dry areas of the face before applying makeup, and I've even used this oil on my elbows and palm if I get split calluses while exercising with barbells. As someone with a handful of face oils to choose from, I can see why the Drunk Elephant option is a cult favorite!

But back to F Balm! F balm is an overnight face mask that fills and strengthens the acid mantle of the skin (part of the skin's protective barrier) with a combination of niacinamide, sodium PCA, vegetable squalane, ceramides and vitamin F (fatty acids). If your skin needs a big drink of water, I cannot emphasize enough how hydrated your skin feels! The electrolyte mix in this product definitely helps me control the redness on my upper cheekbones that I get after getting heavy on alpha hydroxy acids, and those dry areas around my nose just seem to go away.

What's great is that Drunk Elephant delivers you a small bottle of it T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum to further improve F Balm's results. By loosening up these dead skin cells, F Balm can do its magic even better by penetrating the skin more optimally, so you wake up with the skin you absolutely love.

Both products are great for making my almost 40-year-old skin look good. I admit that due to the price of these products you don't have to buy ALL of them to see a difference in your skin, but they work synergistically together to produce fantastic results. When you don't feel like you need help overnight, B-Hydra and Virgin Marula Oil make a great base for makeup or even glowing days without makeup. If you know your skin needs more help and you can't get it all, maybe invest in F-Balm, which comes with the glycol serum, to give yourself an intense moisturizing mask overnight.

Have you ever tried a Drunk Elephant skin care product? Jen's husband is a big fan of their A-Passioni retinol cream and Jen and I both love their glycolic acid. Do let us know in the comments below what the brand you've tried – and what we should try next!
