Google could be working on new pixel buds

A few years ago, Google launched the first pair of Pixel Buds, which were wireless headphones, but they were still wired together. Google later followed suit with its second-generation Pixel Buds, which took the real design for wireless earbuds, and now it looks like we can look forward to a third-generation model.

This comes from a report by 9to5Google that discovered an FCC file for two devices with the model numbers “GPQY2” and “G7YPJ”. While the filing doesn’t specifically state that these are headphones / earbuds, 9to5Google noted that the radio bands they were submitted for have the same Bluetooth ranges as the second-generation Pixel Buds, leading to speculation that this could be the third generation models.

The documentation also states the size of the device as 27 x 20 x 15 mm, which clearly indicates that these are not Nest speakers and that they are most likely headphones. It’s unclear why two models are listed, but possibly Google could have a Pro version and a non-Pro version like Apple did with the AirPods.

We’re also not sure what changes Google will bring to the table with the third generation model. It is speculated that these earbuds could be announced along with Google’s new Pixel phone, so we may have to wait a while for an official announcement.
