New York Governor Andrew Cuomo holds a press conference Tuesday as the state reports a slight increase in its Covid-19 infection rate, which has been below 1% for over a month.
Cuomo told reporters at a press conference on Monday that health officials are trying to determine where the growing numbers of cases are coming from by examining specific zip codes in the New York City area.
"Brooklyn is an important contributor to the number of cases," Cuomo told reporters on the call, saying the district has a local positivity rate of 2.6%. Orange and Rockland counties in New York also contributed to the state's overall increase in rate, he said.
The spike in cases is a worrying sign as the state prepares to reopen indoor eateries and face-to-face schools in its most populous city. Earlier Tuesday, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city had reported a local positivity rate of over 3% – the highest in months.
